It's time to spread the word.
A free guide to marketing and PR for startups.

When your product is perfected and your business plan is in place, it’s time to spread the word about your brand.
Marketing for startups
You’ve poured your energy into perfecting your product and refining your business plan — now it’s time to share it with the world. Marketing is all about telling your story in a way that connects with your audience, and you don’t need a massive budget to make a big impact.
Start here:
Know your customer before you market to them. Where are they hanging out — and what makes them care?
One powerful framework to help shape your approach is the 7 P’s of marketing:
Product – What makes it unique?
Price – What’s the value you offer?
Place – Where will you sell or show up?
Promotion – How will people hear about you?
People – Who supports and sells your product?
Process – How smooth is the experience?
Packaging (or Physical Evidence) – What’s the first impression?
Did you know?
64% of consumers prefer to buy from a company with a reputation for purpose as well as profit.
How does PR work? Getting your brand in the spotlight
Public relations is all about creating-and maintaining-a positive image of your brand and getting it in front of the right audience.
This can be on a big scale (think TV or radio features) or slightly smaller (press releases, blogs, podcasts and editorial). Good PR can build credibility with your brand, which you can then leverage in your own marketing. It’s a startup-friendly way to build credibility, raise awareness, and attract the right customers — often without spending a penny.
Think:
Articles in relevant publications
Podcast interviews
Thought leadership on LinkedIn
Press releases for launches and milestones
PR opens doors, builds backlinks, and positions you as a founder worth following.
“Advertising is what you pay for, publicity is what you pray for”
Mastering social media: show up where it matters
In today's digital world, your online presence is just as important as what you’re doing offline. When it comes to social media, choose the platforms that are the best fit for your product and target audience and make sure both your online and offline content are aligned by creating tone of voice guidelines.
Quick Wins:
Plan content in batches to stay consistent
Use scheduling tools like Buffer or Later
Create a review process before publishing posts
Explore paid ads and micro-influencers to boost reach affordably
Use freelance platforms (e.g. Fiverr) for extra support
To make social media really work for you, explore paid advertising opportunities and influencer marketing, neither of which have to cost the earth if you’re savvy about it.
Top Tip:
A strong content process helps you scale faster and avoid missteps.
Let data drive your decisions
Once your marketing strategy is in place, it’s time to focus on the data. Data becomes your best friend. Tracking performance helps you do more of what works — and ditch what doesn’t.
Start with:
Engagement and reach on social media
Website traffic and bounce rate
Click-through and conversion rates
Return on investment (ROI) on paid campaigns
And don’t forget to test as you go. A/B testing your subject lines, calls to action, or visual content can unlock serious growth — just change one variable at a time.
Top Tip: If you want to get up-to-speed with analytics and data, take a free online course. Google’s Analytics Academy offers free, beginner-friendly courses.
Great marketing isn’t just about getting seen — it’s about being remembered. And in today’s purpose-driven world, the brands that win are the ones that build real connection and stand for something bigger.
So be bold. Be clear. Be consistent.
And remember — you don’t need a huge team or budget to create a brand people believe in.
