Meet the shortlist of businesses in the ‘Street Food’ category for Virgin StartUp Foodpreneur Festival 2015.
From hundreds of entries to be crowned the best street food start up in Britain, our team of judges has selected the companies below to be sent to the final round. From this list our partners Appear Here and Urban Food Fest will select a winner each.
One winner will get a rent-free pop up space for one week (Monday – Sunday) at London’s Old Street Underground Station, courtesy of pop-up experts Appear Here. Having your business showcased at an enormously busy underground station in Zone One means a lot of footfall – we’re talking 70,000 people per day.
We’re also giving another winner a rent-free stall at Urban Food Fest in Shoreditch, London for three months (opening hours 12:00pm – 12:00am every Saturday) –Urban Food Fest is a leading London street food festival all about amazing grub, live music, and good times.

SOAK Shakes & Co.
SOAK Shakes & Co. produces delicious, dairy-free cashew shakes, handmade in small batches using fresh, high quality ingredients. Plus, as a social enterprise, 10% of profit from each shake sold supports elephant and rhino conservation in Kenya.
Sweetly Simple
The Sweetly Simple mission is to inspire healthy living. I wanted to create a space that transformed everyday treats into healthier options, and somewhere for people to ask questions and have special concoctions made to aid ailments.
Claw Food
Britain export approximately 80% of their crabs to Europe and beyond. Crab is sustainable, locally sourced and most importantly delicious. On the back of this we thought it was about time that the hero crab is given the credit it deserves!
Humpit Hummus
Humpit is a Hummus & Pita bar concept serving a fresh, healthy and totally vegan selection of Mediterranean-inspired foods. The brand is young, cool and appeals to all consumers, whatever their dietary requirements.
Goodness Grainless Me
Goodness Grainless Me make a delicious range of light sponge cakes made entirely from coconut flour, coconut oil, coconut milk, whole foods and honey to sweeten. By baking in this way we have radically changed the nutritional profile of a cake to low carbohydrate, high protein and fibre. They are also naturally gluten, dairy, yeast, soy, and refined sugar free.
Milo & Hector’s
Milo & Hector's is a handmade ice cream sandwich business that is shaking up the London food scene. We were the UK's first ice cream sandwich truck and have developed the UK's first packaged handmade ice cream sandwiches.
Papi’s Pickles
Papi’s Pickles is a catering social enterprise, providing fresh and tasty South Indian and Sri Lankan food, and pickles, for events, pop ups and street food markets. We act as a platform for women from these communities to use the skills they have in the kitchen, topped up with training, to earn an income, access support and build confidence.
